About the Ministry

Driven by Compassion. Committed to Service.

The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Akwa Ibom State, was established on September 9, 2024, by His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D., to enhance social welfare and humanitarian response across the state. The ministry became fully operational on October 14, 2024, with the appointment of its pioneer Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Eno Ime Akpan, FCA.

On February 24, 2025, Princess Emem Ibanga was sworn into the State Executive Council and appointed as the Honourable Commissioner for the Ministry. Tasked with aligning state-level interventions with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, the ministry is committed to fostering inclusive policies and impactful humanitarian initiatives.

Through strategic interventions and targeted support systems, the ministry has achieved remarkable milestones in empowering communities and supporting vulnerable groups.

The ARISE Initiative has empowered 400 female youths through the Youth Empowerment Scheme, providing each beneficiary with ₦750,000. Additionally, 2,000 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have received essential business support under the Business Equipment Support Scheme, while 15,000 young entrepreneurs benefited from the ARISE Youth Business Grant, receiving ₦50,000 each to boost their ventures.

Marked the 2025 Human Trafficking awareness day which is celebrated on the 11th of January, annually.

Participated in the distribution of palliatives to vulnerable individuals across all Local Government Areas in Akwa Ibom State.

Supervised the construction of compassionate homes across different Local Government Areas, 174 compassionate homes built and handed over to the beneficiaries. .

Conducted inspection and rehabilitation of abandoned skill acquisition centres under the Life Enhancement Agency in Nsit Ubium and Ibesikpo Asutan LGAs.
